As regular listeners may know, in Season 4 of Each For All, we had an episode that focused on collectively-run bicycle stores. Today we’re returning to that topic, with a closer look at the community side of things: The organizations featured in this episode are not profit-generating ventures but instead are driven by mandates that focus on developing cycling culture and promoting transportation education.

Aromatic Farm Coop/Buy BCwild

In developing local food security, communities have been organizing farmer’s markets, food box delivery programs, collective kitchens, and community gardens: All great ways to build relationships between neighbours, farmers, and their food. However, what about naturally-derived consumer products that aren’t for eating? And what about the products, edible and otherwise, that are wildcrafted from forests, meadows, and other landscapes that are closer to nature than a farmed plot?

Homelessness in Victoria, Co-op Development in Mongolia

Instead of the usual themed show, this episode of Each For All is looking at a couple of different topics, which don't seem to be very connected to one another: Homelessness in the Greater Victoria Area, and Co-op Development in Mongolia. What these topics do have in common, however, is that the people we're speaking to about them are both local activists who have been deeply influenced by the co-op model and have shown their commitment through long-time involvement in social economy projects.

In this episode of Each for All, we examine technology co-operatives.

First Robin talks with Scott Nelson and Jeff Davis who are board members of the recently incorporated Vancouver Open Network Initiative – a not-for-profit membership-owned and managed Cooperative. The initiative seeks to provide hardware and software for members to create a mesh of networked wireless (wifi) devices.
