At 7 pm on Wednesday, February 19th, 2009, the South Islands Regional Co-operative Council (SIRCC) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (Local 951 & 4163) are hosting a public discussion with Annie Normandin from the Québec Federation of Funeral Co-ops at Fairfield United Church (1303 Fairfield Road, Victoria, BC). For more information on Forming a Funeral Co-op, please visit the SIRCC website. In light of this upcoming event, today's episode of Each For All features interviews with representatives from the community-based funeral industry, in which people have come together to provide their loved ones with dignified, supportive, and affordable final arrangements. We hear from Jeannette Miller, of the Prairie Lily Funeral Co-op in Regina, Barbara Crosby of the Island Funeral Co-op Association on Prince Edward Island, and John Eric Rolfstad from the Seattle-based People's Memorial Funeral Cooperative as well as the People's Memorial Association. During our conversation, John Eric mentions the guidance that People's Memorial received from the Northwest Co-operative Development Center... Check out their website for great resources! We also talk about the Natural Burial Co-operative, which has a website that serves as another great resource for alternative funeral arrangements. The broadcast version of this episode featured the songs "Feel. Love. Thinking. Of." by Faunts which is the title track from their latest album, as well as "Goodnight Oslo" by Robyn Hitchcock, the title track from his latest album. It also featured "Never let nobody bring you down", by Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir, from their unreleased complimentary demo.
